World Post Day | BOTEC hosts regional meeting

BOTEC Celebrated World Post Day

The Botswana Technology Centre (BOTEC) joined Botswana Post and other stakeholders on the 9 th October 2008 in commemorating World Post Day in Machaneng in the Tswapong Area of Botswana. BOTEC was invited to this event as the pioneers of Kitsong Centre services in the country, which was later adopted by the government and rolled out through Botswana Post.

Making a presentation on the development and history of Kitsong Centers in Botswana, BOTEC Principal Computer Engineer Suthani K. Mazhani said BOTEC is proud to see these services being rollout. He also stated that that these centers would greatly help improve the lives of Batswana not only in terms of easy access to ICT services but by empowering them with knowledge to develop their livelihoods in remote places.

Mazhani said Kitsong Centers will also enhance communication in rural places and open greater opportunities for the rural community to participate in the global scenes of development. “As pioneers of Kitsong Centers we believe that Botswana Post is the right organization with the required infrastructure right around the country to provide the rural communities with information sharing resources,” emphasized Mazhani. He added that the World Post Day theme, “A Postal Sector resolutely looking towards the future,” befits the initiatives being undertaken by Botswana Post by bringing top class high tech services to the rural communities.

He added that rural communities will benefit from the services such as faxing, photocopying, laminating, binding, internet services etc which Kitsong Centres provide.

“During our study before implementing Kitsong Centres, we identified the benefits associated with the development of these centres and we found that they reduced travelling time and cost to access information. Access to high quality information which is relevant to their needs as well as giving the rural community an opportunity to learn how to use the latest ICT technology,” advised Mazhani ....Continue to read
